The first edition of the HBD Youth Cup was organized in 1987, inspired by the dominance of the HBD youth team in the national championship. To further their development, the club created the tournament to give the team valuable international experience and the chance to compete against foreign opponents. In this inaugural edition, eight teams from six countries participated, setting the foundation for what would become a renowned international youth handball tournament.
In 1990, the organizing committee aimed to elevate the tournament by expanding the competition to 10 teams. For the first time, the event featured 10 teams from 10 different countries, further strengthening its international reputation.
In 2008, the HBD boys’ team achieved a historic milestone by securing their first-ever tournament victory. This triumph marked a proud moment for the club, showcasing the strength of its youth development and its ability to compete at the highest level.
In 2016, the HBD Youth Cup proudly celebrated its 30th edition, marking three decades of passion for youth handball. To honor this milestone, all past presidents of the tournament’s organizing committee gathered to commemorate the event and its rich history. Their presence was a testament to the tournament’s enduring legacy and its importance in fostering young handball talent over the years.
In 2022, the HBD Youth Cup made history by welcoming girls’ teams into the tournament for the first time. The organizing team aimed to support the growth of girls’ handball and provide them with the opportunity to compete against international teams. This milestone reinforced the tournament’s commitment to fostering talent and inclusivity in youth handball.
In 2023, the HBD Youth Cup took its commitment to girls’ handball a step further by making the girls’ competition the main tournament. The boys competed in the mini tournament, highlighting the event’s dedication to promoting and strengthening girls’ handball on an international stage.
In 2024, the HBD girls’ team made history by securing the first-ever tournament victory for an HBD girls’ team. Their triumph was a fitting reward for the club’s ongoing commitment to supporting and developing girls’ handball, showcasing the success of its efforts on the international stage.
